Indications for use
Prevention of iron deficiency anemia – a standard procedure in pig breeding. Due to their rapid growth rate, piglets have a significantly higher need for iron compared to the young of other species. Sow’s milk, while rich in nutrients, is extremely poor in iron. In fact, its colostrum contains half as much iron as cow’s colostrum. Thus, iron deficiency in the body leads to a decrease in hemoglobin levels and reduced activity of iron-containing enzymes, which are closely associated with protein synthesis and other vital cellular functions.
Application procedure
Ferrolong is administered once by deep intramuscular injection into the upper third of the thigh or neck. During the winter season, before administration, the vial should be warmed in a water bath to 36–38 °C.
Dosage:
- Piglets — 1 ml on the 2nd–4th day of life
- Calves — 2 ml on the 3rd–5th day of life
- Lambs, kids — 0.5 ml on the 5th–6th day of life
- Pigs and pregnant sows — 4 ml, 15–20 days before farrowing
- Cattle (adult) — 8.0 ml per head
- Small ruminants (adult) — 2.0 ml per head
